The printed guide

Some guests like paper: a folder on the kitchen table, a sheet on the fridge. The printed guide turns your guidebook into sheets you can print or save as a PDF. It uses the pages you already wrote, so you maintain one guidebook, not two.

Open your guidebook and choose Printed guide. You can also open it from the guidebook overview, with the Printed guide button on each card.

How the editor works

The sheets are in the middle, exactly as they will print. The panel on the right lists the Sections of the guide, with the Settings for the whole guide below them.

• Click a section — on the sheet or in the list — to open its panel. The arrow in front of the title takes you back to the list.
• Drag sections into order in the list, or drag them on the sheet by the handle in the small bar above a section.
• The eye hides a section without losing its place. The bin takes out what you added — a page or one of your own blocks. The cover, At a glance, the contents and the back cover can only be hidden.
• Undo and Redo are at the top, next to Print / PDF and Save Changes.

Nothing is saved until you choose Save Changes. The button lights up as soon as there is something to save.

What is in the guide

Section	What it is
Cover	The first sheet. Choose a Cover style: a calling card with the name, Wi-Fi, a QR code and the times; everything on one page, with the address, emergency numbers and your own "Good to know" boxes; or a large photo.
At a glance	The information sheet. It is a sheet of its own behind a photo cover; with the other two styles the cover already is that sheet.
Contents	Builds itself from the pages in the guide.
Your guidebook pages	The text comes from the guidebook and stays linked to it: correct a page there and the printed guide follows. Use Edit page to go there. Per page you can leave the photos out or start it on a new sheet.
Your own blocks	Text and a photo that belong on paper only.
Overviews of tips	Places from Explore, each with a photo, a short text and a QR code.
Back cover	A thank-you, your contact details, the QR code to the digital guide and the month of printing.

The first time you open it, the printed guide already holds your published pages — except the Wi-Fi page (Wi-Fi is on the cover), the check-in page (whoever reads the folder is already inside) and pages without any text. If you highlighted places in Explore, it also starts with an overview of those tips before the back cover. It is a starting point: take out what you do not want, and add the rest with Add.

Wi-Fi, check-in and check-out times, the address and the emergency numbers come from your listing and your guidebook settings. If something is missing, the editor says so on the sheet and tells you where to fill it in. Those notices are never printed.

Texts you can change — or remove

The title and the line under it on the cover, and the title and text on the back cover, start with a standard wording in the print language. What you see in the field is what prints:

• Leave it, and it follows the print language when you switch.
• Type your own words, and they stay as they are in every language.
• Empty the field, and nothing is printed there.

Adding sections

Choose Add under the list, or the plus between two sections on the sheet — that puts the new section exactly there.

• Empty block adds your own text. Click the title at the top of the panel to change it; without a title a block is simply a photo or a paragraph, not a chapter in the contents. Double-click a block on the sheet to type on the sheet itself. A block is written in your guidebook's language; when you print the guide in another language, its panel shows fields for that language, so you can translate it there.
• Overview of tips adds a list of places from Explore. The places you highlighted are ticked to start with. Tick the places you want, drag them into order, and choose whether photos and QR codes are shown. A guest who scans a code opens that place in the digital guide. The text comes from the place: a place without a short description or photo is listed in the panel, with a link to fill it in.
• Pages from your guidebook shows every page with a tick. Tick a page to put it in, untick it to take it out. Taking a page out never deletes it from your guidebook.

A page you add to your guidebook later is not added to a printed guide you already saved. You find it unticked in the Add menu.

Settings for the whole guide

Setting	What it does
Guide language	The language the guide prints in. Your pages print in their translation for that language.
Paper size	A4 or A5.
Font and Text size	Four typefaces, one of them extra legible, in three sizes.
Page breaks	Economical uses the fewest sheets, Relaxed leaves room around headings, Each chapter on a new page suits a folder with loose sheets.
Page numbers	In the bottom corner and in the contents.

The QR code to the digital guide is a switch on each sheet that can carry it: the cover, At a glance and the back cover. When the guide prints in a language other than English, a small English line under the code tells every guest that the digital guide is there in their language.

Printing and saving a PDF

Choose Print / PDF and pick your printer, or your browser's Save as PDF. Use the paper size you chose in the settings and turn off the browser's own headers and footers if it adds them. Turn on background graphics so the soft-coloured panels print.

Print from the browser you reviewed the sheets in: browsers wrap text slightly differently.

Is the paper in the house still right?

Paper does not update itself. The editor helps you keep track:

• Under the sheets you see Last printed, with the date. If something changed since — a new Wi-Fi password, a rewritten house rule — it names the sections that are no longer what you printed. Click it to go there.
• The back cover carries the month of printing, small, at the bottom. In the house you can see at a glance which version is lying there. Turn it off with Show date in the back cover's panel.

Good to know

• Only published guidebook pages are printed. A page you unpublish drops out until it is published again.
• Videos are replaced by a link to the digital guide.
• A PDF you saved earlier is a separate file and does not change.
• The printed guide is yours to print: guests do not see a print option in the digital guide.
