Blocking Dates
Block dates on your calendar to prevent bookings during specific periods. This is useful for personal stays, scheduled maintenance, property renovations, or simply holding dates while you wait for a confirmation.
How to block dates
- On the calendar, click on the start date you want to block.
- In the form that appears, select "Block dates" instead of creating a booking.
- Set the end date for the blocked period.
- Choose the listing the block applies to (if not already selected).
- Optionally, add a note explaining the reason for the block (e.g., "Owner stay", "Plumbing repair", "Holding for potential group booking").
- Click Save.
The blocked dates now appear on the calendar as a distinct block, separate from guest bookings.
What blocked dates do
- Prevent new bookings -- No one can book the listing for those dates, whether manually or through synced platforms.
- Show on the calendar -- Blocked periods are clearly visible so you and your team know those dates are unavailable.
- Sync via iCal -- If you export your hejGuide calendar to other platforms, blocked dates are included as "unavailable" periods.
TIP
Add a note to every block so you remember why the dates were blocked. This is especially helpful when your team manages multiple properties.
Common uses for blocking dates
- Personal stays -- Block dates when you or family members plan to use the property.
- Maintenance and repairs -- Block time for scheduled cleaning, inspections, or renovations.
- Seasonal closures -- Close a property for the off-season.
- Tentative holds -- Temporarily block dates while waiting for a guest to confirm. Remove the block once you have a decision.
Removing a block
- Click on the blocked period in the calendar.
- On the block detail view, click Delete or Remove block.
- The dates become available again for bookings.
WARNING
Removing a block does not automatically create a booking for those dates. If a guest was waiting for those dates, you will need to create a booking separately.
