Google Analytics on your booking site
Want to see in your own Google Analytics how many people visit your booking site, what dates they search for, where they drop off and how many book? Connect your GA4 property once under Account settings → Integrations. hejGuide then adds the tag to every booking site in your workspace.
Find your Measurement ID
- Open analytics.google.com and pick (or create) the property for your accommodation.
- Go to Admin → Data streams and open your web stream, or create one with the address of your booking site.
- Copy the Measurement ID — it looks like
G-XXXXXXXXXX. - In hejGuide, go to Account settings → Integrations → Google Analytics, paste the ID and click Connect.
That is all. From the next visit on, data flows into your property.
What you will see in GA4
hejGuide sends the standard GA4 e-commerce events, so the reports work without any setup on your side:
| Event | When |
|---|---|
page_view | every page of your booking site |
view_item_list | a guest opens your brand site with several accommodations |
view_item | a guest opens an accommodation page |
search | a guest checks availability for dates and guests |
begin_checkout | a guest starts paying or sends a booking request |
purchase | a booking is confirmed (with amount and currency) |
Open Reports → Monetisation → E-commerce purchases for bookings, and Explore → Funnel exploration with view_item → search → begin_checkout → purchase to see where guests drop off.
The cookie notice
Google Analytics uses cookies, and in the EU that needs consent. hejGuide shows a small notice on your site: Cookies for statistics — Accept / No thanks, in the guest's language. Until a guest accepts, Google receives no cookies (Consent Mode v2) and models the numbers instead. Guests who decline are still counted in the modelled totals, but not tracked individually.
hejGuide's own statistics are cookie-free and separate from this; they never show a notice.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect on the same card. The tag disappears from your sites on the next page load; your GA4 property keeps the data it already has.
Your side as the data controller
hejGuide shows the cookie notice, loads Google's script only after the guest accepts, and lets a guest change the choice again via the Cookies link in the footer. Three things sit in your own GA4 account and are yours to do:
- Accept Google's data processing terms — GA4 → Admin → Account settings → Data Processing Terms. Without it you have no processor agreement with Google.
- Keep data retention short — Admin → Data settings → Data retention: 2 months is enough for a booking site.
- Leave Google Signals off — Admin → Data settings → Data collection. Signals links visits to Google accounts for advertising; you do not need it and it needs extra consent you are not asking for.
